Why Use This Tool

A glitch text generator (sometimes called a zalgo generator) layers Unicode combining marks on top of normal characters, producing text that looks distorted, corrupted, or possessed. This tool offers three intensities: light for a faint creep, medium for clearly distorted output, and heavy for the over-the-top chaos that overflows out of its line.

Glitch text is a creative-writing flourish more than a productivity tool. Horror authors use it for inhuman dialogue, indie game devs paste it into menus and dialogue boxes for tone, social-media accounts in horror, occult, or surreal-meme niches use it in bios and posts, and anyone working on Halloween copy or alt-aesthetic content reaches for it. Stack it with bold or cursive generators for layered effects.

Conversion happens entirely in your browser. The tool is free, requires no signup, and has no character limit. Note that some apps will compress combining marks for accessibility — Twitter, for example, may collapse very high zalgo back to plain text — so test with a low intensity first if your target platform is unknown.

Frequently Asked Questions

Glitch text (also called zalgo text) is created by stacking Unicode combining diacritical marks above and below regular characters. These marks are normally used for accents in various languages, but when many are stacked together they create a distorted, glitchy, or "cursed" visual effect that spills outside normal line boundaries.
Glitch text works in Discord, Twitter/X, Instagram, Facebook, Reddit, Twitch chat, gaming profiles, and most platforms that support Unicode. It's popular for creepy usernames, horror-themed content, meme posts, and standing out in comment sections.
At light and medium intensity, no. At heavy intensity, this tool caps combining characters at 15 per character to prevent browser slowdown. Extremely long texts with heavy glitch may still render slowly on older devices, so start with medium intensity for longer passages.
Light adds 1–3 combining marks per character for a subtle corruption effect. Medium adds 3–8 marks for clearly visible distortion. Heavy adds 8–15 marks for maximum chaos — characters spill into lines above and below, creating the classic zalgo look.
